OUR HISTORY
FOUNDER'S MESSAGE
The African Women in Leadership Organisation (AWLO) began in 2009 in Accra, Ghana, as the West African Women in Leadership Conference (AWLC), created to provide a platform for dialogue, leadership development, and collaboration among women in West Africa. In 2010, the initiative expanded into the African Women in Leadership Conference, with its first continental edition held in Abuja, Nigeria. Over the following years, the conference was hosted in multiple African countries, growing its reach and strengthening its focus on advocacy, mentorship, capacity building, and leadership development.
In 2014, the movement reached a major milestone with its first Diaspora Conference in the United States and evolved into the African Women in Leadership Organisation (AWLO), an international platform dedicated to empowering women and advancing transformational leadership globally. Today, AWLO continues to connect women across continents through conferences, mentorship, partnerships, and leadership programs that inspire impact across governance, business, and community development.
